About
As an Internist with over 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Walsh is personally familiar with the stresses of medical practice and the challenges of balancing career with personal and family life. He’s experienced periods of stress and burnout himself, and has also devoted decades to learning evidence based and practical strategies to promote resiliency and flourishing, even when times are stressful.
Dr Walsh has extensive experience in the field of behavioral health and promoting wellness. During his career at Kaiser Permanente as a general Internist and Addiction Medicine specialist, he served as the medical adviser to a primary care based Behavioral Medicine program and has worked with patients with complex needs, providing expert care that focused on psychological health and wellness. He served as Chief of Physician Wellness at Kaiser Sacramento for 5 years. He also has a decades long practice of mindfulness meditation, and since retiring from Kaiser in 2019 he works as a certified mindfulness teacher who has taught classes in the community. He continues to be helpful to clients and patients through his teaching mindfulness at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program here in Sacramento. In addition, he is a certified ACT Matrix facilitator and coach, and has provided coaching and mentoring services on a volunteer basis to clinicians in the MAVEN Project.
In his spare time, Dr Walsh enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, sailing and—most of all—enjoying the company of family and friends.
Services
Dr. Walsh loves helping clients who want to enhance their sense of fulfillment. He has experience helping clinicians who have some dissatisfaction with their life or practice and who want to make changes, but who also feel stuck. The process he uses starts with a focus on the client’s cherished life values. Then, after identifying barriers to living fully, he supports the client in developing a path to action that taps into their own aspirations. Utilizing the tools of mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Training, along with compassionate listening and support, Dr Walsh helps clients reconnect with who and what’s important in their lives and then get unstuck so they can live the life that is meaningful to them.
